I was born in Detroit on 12/15/88 (nearly one year to the day before Taylor Swift, FYI, whose birthday is 12/13/89).
I’m really good at memorizing numbers: dates, freeway exits, etc. I don’t know why this is or how it happened, which is how I feel about a lot of things in life.
Grew up in the suburbs and am still here. Or, more accurately, keep coming back. [Insert eloquent ode to Linda’s Diner and Balduck Hill here.]
I’m getting pretty good at dodging run-ins with people from high school, but that’s probably because I graduated in 2007 and 2007 was kind of a long time ago now. Most people from that part of my life have moved on.
I did my fair share of moving on, too. I’ve attended both Saginaw Valley and Wayne State Universities, majoring in English and Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies. I edited the school lit mag in college; my final editor’s note referenced Lady Gaga at least 10 times (Cardinal Sins, winter 2010, look it up).
I lived in Traverse City for a while too, where I got roped into working 3rd shift at a gas station. I’m a non-smoker who knows entirely too much about various cigarette brands.
I first started this blog in 2012, when I was still in school and thought I had my shit together. I don’t pretend to know what I’m doing anymore. But I do know this much: I love deeply if at all. Writing fuels me in ways that nothing else ever has. Karaoke is fun. And introversion aside, I find people to be endlessly interesting and endearing and weird.
